Temperatures in this part of northern Sweden are extremely cold during the winter months, we recommend travellers pack for a true winter experience. Guests are also supplied with additional suitable winter clothing on arrival and or before their activities commence.

The Lulea archipelago had in total around 1,300 island but only 100 residents, this is a truly wilderness environment. The location of Pine Bay Lodge in the Bothnian Sea is such that during winter the water freezes up and a layer of ice over a metre thick forms linking all the islands.

Day time activities such as snowmobiling, winter skills classes or husky sledding often include lunch out in the wilderness, however lunch is available at the guesthouse on arrangement should you not be out on the ice.

Pine Bay Lodge benefits from the use of its own exclusive Hovercraft. Take a tour with your host out onto the ice pack and speed across the tundra to some of the remote islands. Enjoy listening to your guide pointing out the sights over the intercom and be sure to savour the experience of floating past icebergs.
