Nordenskiold Lodge is the northernmost commercial cabin in the world. With no running water or electricity, Nordenskiold is a true expedition lodge in the middle of the Arctic. Using wood to heat the cabin, and get drinking water from the melting glacier the lodge is truly off-grid. There are 5 bedrooms with fantastic Arctic views, 10 comfortable beds, an indoor toilet, and a traditional wood-fired sauna.

The lodge stands on the moraine shore of an icy fjord, at the edge of the blue glacier. This is the true expedition lodge on Svalbard, which sits nestling into the arctic wilderness perfectly.

Before you even leave Longyearbyen, you are already almost as remote as it gets. Nordenskiöld Lodge, however, takes the isolation from the modern world to another level.

Just like the explorers decades ago, you’ll spend days climbing on the glacier and skiing around the fjord and snowy valleys. Warm yourself up in the sauna after a long day’s exploring. As the Arctic night surrounds the pine cabin you can lay your head on the soft pillow, wrap yourself in the warm blankets, and bask in the Arctic silence.

When you lift your head in the morning, the first thing you will see is the blissful view of the blue glacier. What should you do today? How about a visit to the ghost town of Pyramiden, just a few miles away?

Nordenskiold Lodge is situated on one of the side fjords of Isfjorden, in Billefjorden. The lodge is next to the shoreline in Adolfbukta, one of the inner bays in Billefjorden, right next to the mighty glacier of Nordenskiold. The Nordenskiold glacier is part of the larger glacier system stretching all the way to the north coast of Spitsbergen, making the northern parts of the high Arctic Archipelago very accessible from the Nordenskiold Lodge. This is as far as you can go on motorized vehicles - from here on it's either skis or dog sled if you want to explore further.

During summer, you can reach the cabin by boat from Longyearbyen harbor, a two hour boat ride in good weather. We use open polar circle boats to cross the Isfjorden to Nordenskiold Lodge. During winter time you can reach the lodge by dog sled or snowmobile. We have several interesting tours for the winter that combine the Ship in the Ice and Nordenskiold as part of the same expedition. But no matter which season you choose to visit, one thing is certain: you are in for an adventurous trip into the true High Arctic!
