We are pleased to say that the courses at Gleneagles are in excellent condition following a programme of winter maintenance and a bout of dry, sunny weather in May and June.

One of the most significant projects at Gleneagles recently was the extensive development programme with a veiw to restoring The King’s Course to its original glory.  The James Braid-designed course is in fact due to celebrate its 100th birthday in 2019 and is widely regarded as a masterpiece in course design.

The King's Course is famed for hosting the very first match between British and American professionals in 1921 and this historic course has been taken back to how it would have been in Braid’s day. The relaunched King’s Course now tests different skills and offers golfers a more traditional playing experience to the pristine and defined PGA Centenary Course.  From the feedback received so far, guests are delighted to have this choice.

Further investment in the Gleneagles’ golf offering includes a programme of development at the PGA National Golf Academy. The retail offering has been enhanced to provide an even broader range of leading golf brands, including Titleist, Taylor-Made, Mizuno, Ping and Callaway.

The golfer’s journey has also been enhanced with the launch of a brand new bar, Auchterarder 70, in The Dormy Clubhouse.  Auchterarder 70 – which is the hotel’s original telephone number – is an atmospheric, 1920s-style bar, which offers striking views over the 18th hole of The King’s and Queen’s Courses and an outstanding range of locally-sourced craft beer and snacks.

Dining Options

Andrew Fairlie's Michelin-starred Restaurant:  The Ulimate dining experience and Scotland's only two Michelin star restaurant. The French cuisine here has a delightful Scottish twist which you will be able to savour in a beautiful, intimate room. There is a relaxed unprotentious atmosphere with simple and brilliantly tasty dishes being served. Look out for Andrew's famous whisky barrel smoked lobster!

Auchterader 70: Located within The Dorny Clubhouse, this atmospheric 1920's-style oak panelled bar is named after the hotel's original telephone number. A newcomer to the Gleneagles stable, serving a selection of craft beers and bar snacks.

The Century Bar: Located at the heart of the Gleneagles complex this is a place to meet friends, enjoy socialising, take a morning coffee and shortbread or late afternoon tea with all the trimmings. The bar staff themselves will lead your journey of discovery, educating you through the collection or rare Scottish single malts.

Deseo: The chefs at Deseo prepare Mediterranean recipes that are mouthwatering. A great restaurant with a lively and informal atmosphere. Soon Deseo is to undergo a rebrand, moving towards an American diner theme serving food all day for guests.

The Strathearn for fine dining: Expect a regal setting in this grand restaurant where in winter there is a glowing fire. A classic menu and exceptional service make The Strathearn a firm favourite with new and returning Gleneagles guests. Enjoy a tender Scotch Beef fillet, some Highland venision or beautiful West Coast smoked salmon carved at your table. Breakfast can also be enjoyed at The Strathearn with pancakes made to order served with fresh seasonal berries, maple syrup and bacon - a winning formula prior to any round of golf.

(The Bar has recently been refurbished, holding onto it's famed atmosphere at the centre of Gleneagle but bringing brighter colours and subtle improvements.)

(Guests can enjoy lunches with sweaping views of the Ochil Hills and of course, the golf course).

The Spa at Gleneagles is by ESPA, and has become something of a scantuary within the hotel. The design is simplistic yet elegant - a classic and unique to Gleneagles spa.

There are many spacious treatment areas within the main Spa area however in room treatments can be arranged on request. Allow your body total rest and relaxation. Arrive early to explore the wide ranging heat treatments, relax in the crystal steam room or hot sauna cabin and then cool down with a refreshing ice rub or Arctic mist shower. Finally, a dip in the soothing unisex vitality pool will complete your Spa session.

Beyond the Spa

The award winning Spa by ESPA does not finish at the confines of the spa walls, at Gleneagles there is a new approach to fitness and wellbeing now well and truly in the air. There are a selection of hand-picked alternative health and fitness specialists, offering treatments and personal programmes to suit you with one simple aim: to help you feel good inside and out. Speak to your Sandgrouse Travel Scotland expert who can help arrange for you a session with one of Gleneagles highly qualified and experienced team. The team of skilled Naturopathic Practitioners range from osteopaths, physiotherapists, traditional Chinese medicine acupuncturists and herbalists and of course personal trainers.

Shooting: The acclaimed Gleneagles Shooting School is situated to the north of the hotel and offers panoramic views over the Perthshire Hills. The School's clay shooting ground has 13 principal stands designed to mimic the movement of a variety of game, such as "driven grouse" and "running hare". Clay shooting lessons, for individuals and groups aged 10 and over, start at 55 minutes. Air-rifle lessons are also available to those aged 8 and over, lasting 45 minutes, catering to a maximum of 5 people at a time - perfect for a family. For more experienced shots, depending on the season, there's also the chance to go game-bird shooting and deer-stalking on nearby sporting estates. Speak to your Sandgrouse Travel consultant for further information.

Gundog School: There is a long and venerable tradition of sportsmen and women partnering with gundogs in the field and a visit to The Gundog School at Gleneagles, the first of its kind in the world, is a fantastic way to experience that heritage. Lasting 45 minutes, lessons are available for individuals, families and children over the age of 8.

Riding: The Gleneagles Equestrian School is one of the finest riding centres in Scotland. The state-of-the-art 50-acre British Horse Society-accredited site includes a covered arena, outdoor arena, lecture room and stable yard which is home to 26 horses and ponies. Lessons start from 45 minutes for people aged 3 and upwards, from dressage to guided trails.

Falconry School: Handling and flying magnicient birds of prey is a unique and exhilarating experience, and Gleneagles is proud to be the home of The British School of Falconry, founded by acclaimed falconers Emma and Steve Ford in 1982 as the world's first full-time falconry school. A number of different lessons are available at the school, ranging from introductory 45-minute sessions to family tuition and hawking sessions where hawks are flown at wild quarry, all under the expert tutelage of seasoned falconry instructors.

Ferreting: Children aged 8 and upwards and animal-loving adults can enjoy 45-minute lessons during which they will learn how to handle and work friendly ferrets. After walking the ferrets on a harness, guests can also enjoy racing them and tracking their ferrets through an artificial rabbit warren.

Off-Road Driving: The driving in Perthshire hills is spectacular, and at Gleneagles you can enjoy a thrilling off-road experience in the fleet of 4x4 vehicles. Introductory lessons last for 1 hour 15 minutes, and participants must hold a full driving licence for the demanding trails. Juniors can enjoy the use of 8 wheeled Argocats.

Fishing: Scotland's waterways are renowned for their outstanding fishing, and on or near Gleneagles Hotel guests are lucky enough to have the option of six lochs with plentiful brown and rainbow trout. Seasoned anglers will find great fishing and knowledgable ghillies, while beginners will benefit from expert tuition with an enjoyable introduction to the sport in a scenic environment. Rods and tackle are included in the booking fees. In season, experienced fly-fishers can also head to the fabled River Tay which is nearby for some salmon fishing.
