Today is your final day in Scotland on this short but sharp trip! You will be able to savour a final Scottish breakfast in the wonderful breakfast rooms at Gleneagles Hotel before jumping in the Land Rovers and heading in convoy with your guide further into the hills once more. You will drive about 30-minutes into the Perthshire hills, before driving down a private estate track to park up. Your guide will issue you each with Zeiss optics to use incase you see any fantastic wild or birdlife which abounds in this area includin Red deer, Sea Eagles, Golden eagles, Red grouse, Black grouse and many more species.

Today's walk is not too ambitious, due to the fact that this is your last day in Scotland and of course the snow conditions likely on the higher peaks in the area. We will be attempting to climb a local Corbett (mountain over 2,500ft) with the added enjoyment of a mountain top coffee/picnic stop that has been pre-arranged for the group by prior consent with the land owner. With some luck we will be able to see some great wildlife, experience the Scottish hills at their best affording you some fantastic views and fresh air.

Once the walk is over, you will have the 1-hour drive back to Edinburgh where you will drop off your vehicles at Edinburgh Airport before checking in for your return flights home.

We hope that you have enjoyed visiting Scotland and thank you for travelling with Sandgrouse Travel & Expeditions who have enjoyed hosting you.

'Charles MacLean is Scotland's leading whisky expert' - The Times 2010

When it comes to Scotch whisky, there are few with more knowledge and passion than Charles MacLean.  That is precisely why we at Sandgrouse Travel & Expeditions have included his expert tasting sessions in our Luxury Scotland itineraries.

Talks & Tastings

Charles' talks and tasting are tailored entirely around the requirements of the client or audience, the emphasis of these being on developing a better appreciation of whisky.

The smallest audience Charles has addressed to date was two; the largest five hundred. Charles presents a number of tasting a year throughout the globe for a multitude of whisky enthusiasts, from brand owners, companies, clubs, academic and many other institutions. Overseas Charles has conducted talks in Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Denmark, Germany, Luxemburg, Norway, Russia, Taiwan, Finland and Sweden.

Tastings with Charles can be more or less tutored, vertical or horizontal and can include as many whiskies as requested, although after about six samples the nose and palate become tired. It is desirable that the audience be seated, with samples in front of them: larger audiences can be accommodated by an introductory talk, followed by a peripatetic tasting.

Whisky Dinners

The idea here is to match food and whisky, so that the former highlights characteristics in the latter.
