You will be given a thermal suit, snow mobile boots, windproof mittens, face mask, goggles and hat. Your experienced guide will take care of your safety throughout the trip and will bring all necessary safety equipment.

Dog Sledding

This is the traditional way of travelling in the Arctic that can hardly be surpassed in terms of a beautiful, intense and romantic nature experience. A few days of dog sledding, from hut to hut or camp to camp sleeping in tents, will give you a more unfiltered arctic experience.

Sandgrouse Travel & Expeditions can create and arrange several-day-long tours and journeys for the adventurous . Long dog sledding expeditions are certainly less comfortable than a cruise on board a large ship, but if you are willing to accept this you will be richly rewarded.

Dog sledding is also extremely enviromentally friendly. The industry on Svalbard creates jobs where they are desperately needed in remote places. It's now estimated that there are between 600 and 700 working dogs on the island of Spitsbergen.

Included:
Activities, accommodation and meals according to the program
Transport to and from accommodation
Warm clothing: Snowmobile suit, boots, gloves, hat, goggles and balaclava
All camping equipment, thermos, cup and cutlery, sleeping bag and sleeping mat can be borrowed if needed without extra cost
Search- and rescue insurance

Not included:
Flights, airport shuttle, drinks with meals and CO2 investment of NOK 250

This trip is very challenging. It is physically and mentally tough, and many days on the expedition with harsh weather conditions, camping in the snow and traveling through the glaciers will push you to new places. There may be snowstorms, low temperatures, fog or sunshine. For this trip, you need to be in very good physical condition. In many parts of the trail, there are steep hills where you need to help your dog team.

During the trip, all guests will have an active role: you will set up tents, feed the dogs and help with dinner preparations. You do not need to have previous knowledge of dog sledding, but experiences from camping at wintertime is needed. The weather conditions will decide the choice of route and it may not be possible to reach all of the planned destinations. Your guide is responsible for safety on the expedition.
