Family Super Jeep Summer Tour View Full Screen Itinerary

Your flight will arrive into Iceland’s International Airport (Keflavik). You will be transported by private transfer (private super jeep) and your arrival day will involve an amazing tour. You will head straight into the Icelandic remote landscape of extreme contrasts, which is full of history and fascinating geology. Your private jeep will take you into the highlands through the barren mountain pass of Kaldidalur. You will travel to the Langjokull glacier (subject to road and weather conditions). On your way you will stop to view one of the lava caves found in the lava field. You will also stop at a special Icelandic goat farm and have a chance to take in your surroundings in this natural environment.

Your private jeep will make its way further west to Hotel Hussafell, a breathtaking four star contemporary hotel which benefits from its fabulous location deep in the landscapes of Hussafell. At your hotel, you will have time to unwind after your journey in the hotel's incredible geothermal pools ready to recharge your batteries for your adventures the next day.

Today, after breakfast at your hotel, you will depart and your tour continues. You will journey today to the unique and unusual waterfalls of Hraunfossar and Barnafoss and also look at one of the worlds largest hot springs before going to the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. Here you will enjoy a short boat tour between small islands, where you will be able to see nature and birdlife in abundance such as Puffin and Common Shag. You will said next to a remarkable rock in the middle of the 'birdcliffs'. The rock is mentioned in old Icelandic folk tales. The sail between the islands takes approximately 45 minutes. After this the boat will drop its net plough into the sea and you can experience traditional Icelandic sea fishing. Hopefully, a wonderful selection of shellfish and sea life is caught both for viewing and for some tasting. It is common to catch scallops, sea urchins, crabs, starfish, sea cucumbers and many more. 

Following your boat tour, your private super jeep will take you to the Snaefellsness National Park. This beautiful park is known as the 'jewel in West Iceland' and contains plentiful birdlife, lush valleys, lava fields and the impressive Snaefellsness glacier. The park peninsula is great to tour around by super jeep and you will see Dritvik Cove, Londrangar cliffs as well as Hellnar and Arnarstapi Cliffs with their impressive bird life and small pretty villages on the coast. 

There will be a choice of activity for you ranging from; horse riding, hiking, sea-angling or simply take a chance to take in your surroundings with a pair of binoculars in the glacier's alleged supernatural energy.

Your super jeep will transfer you back to Hotel Hussafell where you can again enjoy the geothermal pools and have dinner and relax enjoying the magnificent views.

After breakfast, you will be collected at your hotel by your guide and private super jeep. Today you will enjoy the famous Golden Circle tour.

You will be taken to Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site, designated for both its beauty and historical importance in world history. No place in Iceland epitmises the history of Iceland and the Icelandic nation (including the Viking history) better than Thingvellir. Home to the world’s oldest Parliament, which was established in approximately 930, this special location hosted the general assembly until 1798. The National Park itself also contains natural wonders on an international scale with a geologic history and biosystem that can be enjoyed first-hand on your visit.

You will then be taken to visit the fantastic great Geysir and the bubbling hot springs, together with the ever erupting Strokkur geyser which erupts every 3-7 minutes. A short stop for lunch and you will then be taken by your guide to visit the impressive waterfalls of Gullfoss, the queen of Iceland’s waterfalls. Certainly regarded as one of Iceland’s spectacular waterfalls, this is located on the white-coloured Hvita River.

Your final stop of the day en-route back to your hotel will be at the 'Secret Lagoon'. This is the oldest swimming pool made in Iceland in 1891, a geothermal pool that will be a great place for you to relax and digest all the amazing sights you have enjoyed today. The water is warm, holding steady at a comfortable 38-40 Celsius (100-104 Fahrenheit) all year. As you float in the lagoon, enjoy the pristine natural surroundings and steam rising into the air, giving the atmosphere an almost magical feeling.

Your hotel today is Hotel Grimsborgir in South Iceland, where you will stay in one of the luxurious and private Hotel Apartments.

After breakfast at Hotel Grimsborgir you will begin your south coast tour, a tour of fire and ice, the two forces that make up Iceland's geology. Your private super jeep will drive you towards the 2010 erupted volcano Eyjafjallajokull. You will there take the track to the hidden valley of Thorsmork and stop at the Gigjokull outlet glacier which falls down from the Eyjafjallajokull Crater. From this view point you can see the devastating impacts of the 2010 volcano eruption. 

Your tour will then continue east stopping at the Seljalandsfoss waterall. Lunch will be served at a beautiful picnic location and will be something traditional such as a tasty Icelandic soup. The afternoon will then involve another waterfall stop at Skogar and a tour of the very interesting folk museaum Skogarsafn. 

Perhaps the highlight of your tour for the horse lovers will be your visit to the amazing Icelandic Horse Park, where you can experience Iceland’s only horse park, mingle with locals, dine on fresh Icelandic food and, most importantly, get to know the unique breed of horse. The horse park is Iceland’s leading tourist attraction for all things “Icelandic horse” and one of the country’s best equine competition facilities. This is a fun, entertaining and educational place for the whole family to visit all year round. You will enjoy a breathtaking Icelandic Horse Theatre show and also have dinner.

You will then return to Hotel Grimsborgir to your House Apartment.

Following breakfast you will depart from your hotel and will be driving by private guide in your super jeep to the Reykjanes Peninsula . There will be a few important stops on the way, one such stop will be Bridge between continents, where the New World meets the Old World, geologically speaking. The European and American plates come together there, and the line of their meeting "comes ashore" at this point with many signs of geological disturbance through the ages.

Your super jeep will then take you to the Gunnuhver hot mud spring area, where mud pools and steam are collectively named Gunnuhver after the female ghost that was laid there. The ghost had been known to cause great disturbances until a priest set a trap for her and she fell into a spring! All of this happened approximately 400 years ago. The mud pools are created where steam from boiling geothermal reservoir water emanates and condenses, mixing with surface water. The water is acidic and the fresh lava rock forms as clay. The steaming of the ground at Reykjanes intensified itself greatly following 2006 due to pressure changes at the reservoir. You will have a chance to explore the Gunnuhver mud pool and witness the water bursting from the ground, this natural display of forces is truly remarkable. 

Your super jeep will then drive you to the famous Blue Lagoon, one of the wonders of the world. You will be served the famous blue-coloured Blue Lagoon cocktail, experience the contrasting blue waters with black lava and have time to relax in the hot geothermal waters. It is possible to add a range of spa treatments and massages at the Blue Lagoon.

You will then head to Hotel Marina where you will check-in, have dinner and relax for the evening. 

After breakfast you will be on the way to largest whale museum in Europe “Whales of Iceland” where you can see whales in natural size and learn about this facinating species.

Your afternoon will involve a magnificent whale watching boat tour. You will depart on this from the whale watching tour headquarters based in Reykjavik in the old harbour. Whales most frequently seen on these tours with Elding are the Minke whales, Humpback whales, Dolphins and Porpoises and other species are sometimes spotted. Special suits on board add to your comfort and warmth, but it is advised you wear your warmest clothes including hats, scarves, gloves etc. as it can get very cold, even on the warmest days.

You will have the opportunity to have hot drinks and light refreshments on board this tour boat, which is full equiped with guides who will update you on each and every sighting you see. You will hear about the seabirds and nature in the Faxafloi bay.

Following the boat tour you will be taken back to Hotel Marina and spend your final evening at leisure with dinner in the hotel or elsewhere if you prefer.
