Edinburgh, The Scottish Highlands & Isle of Skye View Full Screen Itinerary

On arrival at Edinburgh International Airport you will be met by a Sandgrouse Travel representative who will make sure you have all your luggage before you are transferred by private car to Edinburgh city centre. 

Once in the city, you will be quickly dropped off at The Balmoral Hotel, one of the most iconic and famous buildings in the capital. Settle into your rooms before taking a stroll and enjoying this magnificent city.

Today you will wake up in the heart of the city. After a delicious cooked Scottish breakfast you will certainly be fuelled up for a day of exploring the city on foot. Head over to the Old Town and discover some fo the city's secret gems, from quirkie books shops to cosy historic taverns and pubs. 

We recommend that you head up to the top of the Royal Mile today and go into the castle. Here you will learn much more about the city and the castle itself.

At 5pm this afternoon, we have you meeting your guide outside St Gile's cathedral. They will be taking you on a 1-hour tour of the city's incredible underground vaults, passageways and chambers. Here you will discover a subterrainian world complete with stories both fascinating and spooky. 

This evening we have taken the liberty of booking you a table at the much coverted The Witchery By the Castle. The food here is great and the atmosphere is one of a kind. This old world setting seems to have changed little in hundreds of years!

Today you will be checking-out of the briliant Balmoral Hotel in central Edinburgh. After breakfast, your Land Rover Defenders will be delived to the font of the hotel. Here a Sandgrouse Travel representative will make sure you are happy and comfortable with the cars before waving you on your way. Each car is equipped with a Sat Nav system so you will only need to enter the address of your final destination and enjoy the drive north. 

Today you are heading for the very heart of the Cairngorm National Park. You will be in country surrounded by some of the UK's highest peaks. The Cairngorm plateau high above your accommodation is 4,000ft above sea-level and is technically the UK's only Arctic habitat. Home to our only herd of semi-wild Reindeer along with some other fantastic wildlife. 

On your route north today, you will pass by Blair Atholl Castle - we highly recommend visiting the castle, home to the Duke's of Atholl for the last 500 years. The castle is one of Scotland's most impressive and the self guided tour around it will take you about 1-hour. Just north of the castle you will find the House of Bruar - the home of country clothing - sells everything from high qaulity tartans and tweeds to wonderful Scottish, artisinal produce. Take a pit-stop here before the final leg of your journey to Killiehuntly Farmhouse. 

An additional stop on your route today is the world famous Dalwhinnie Distillery. This is Scotland's highest distillery, located in what seems like the middle of nowhere, Dalwhinnie offer fantastic 1-hour tours of the workings of the distillery including tasting sessions of their fantastic single-malt whisky.

Today you will be waking up in quite a different enviroment to the previous days. Surrounded by prestine nature, grand mountains and with a full day ahead of you to enjoy yourselves. 

We have arranged for you today, a special experience with the rangers on Glenfeshie Estate. They will be accompanying you on a guided-walk along some of the best trails and tracks with their famous Garron ponies (Highland Ponies). The pony's will be carrying your fabulous picnic lunch and the whole experience will be very traditional. Infact, a day like today is exactly how Queen Victoria would have spent many a day in the Scottish Highlands! 

Before setting off on your walk, make sure you ask the guys at Killiehuntly to borrow some binoculars as your chances of seeing some of Scotland's most special wildlife is very high today!

On checking-out of Killiehuntly Farmhouse you will jump in the trusty Land Rover Defenders, heading in convoy once more, this time west to the beautiful Isle of Skye. Enter the address for Kinloch Lodge and follow the route through some of Scotland's most dramatic landscapes and scenery. 

We recommend taking your time today with your journey. Our one must do visit is the beautiful Eilean Donan Castle - probably the most recognisable castle in the world? Eilean Donan offers fantastic self-guided tours of the interor of the castle - allow an hour to enjoy this most iconic of Scottish castles in a picture perfect setting. 

Once on the Isle of Skye, head south west to Sleat and Kinloch Lodge where you are staying for the next 3-nights. Here you will be greeted warmly by the staff on arrival before being shown to your fantastic rooms. As always with Kinloch Lodge, a delicous dinner will be served in the evening!

The next two days are yours to enjoy. Explore the Isle of Skye properly from your base in the South West corner. Plans your days well and make sure you visit a few of the most see sights. Do conisder that Skye is a large island and you will want to plan things well so as to not retrace your steps too much over the spell you are here.

We recommend visiting and enjoying Talisker Whisky Distillery, Dunvegan Castle, Fairy Pools and the Old Man of Storr. If crowds are not your thing, you can easily and quickly loose yourselves away from people by parking up the Land Rovers and heading off for a great walk in the hills. Depending on how ambitious your plans are, make sure you tell a member of the hotel staff your rough hiking plans, pick up a good OS Map in a local shop and the mountains of Skye will offer some of the most stunning hikes to be found anywhere in the world!
