The land of Fjells and Fjords

Outdoors folk will quickly fall in love with Norway, the landscape is perfectly suited to mountaineering, hiking and fishing and all things adventure. The lovely-sounding Norwegian ‘allemannsretten’, or ‘freedom to roam’ gives visitors the right to travel freely across the landscape.

Norway forms the western side of Scandinavia in Northern Europe and shares eastern land borders with Sweden, Finland and Russia and is Europe’s longest country. This stunning and dramatic country, is home to breath-taking scenery, with rugged coastlines broken down by huge fjords and thousands of islands. The west coast of Southern Norway and the coast of Northern Norway are regarded as some of the most visually impressive coastal sceneries in the world (National Geographic has listed the Norwegian fjords as the world’s top tourist attraction). Much of the country itself is dominated with mountains, fjells or high terrain due to its pre-historic glacial history.

Away from Norway’s urban areas including Oslo its capital city, vast swathes of the country are beautifully uninhabited, especially in the north. With a population of only just over 5 million people, Norway boasts a low density population of only 35 people per km2. Today due to its continued oil and gas export success, Norway is ranked the 2^nd wealthiest country in the world in monetary value with the largest reserve per capita of any nation.

Norway is a great place for visitors to see the midnight sun, where the sun never sinks below the horizon. In spring and autumn, the Aurora Borealis (Northern lights) can be seen.
