“Land of Fire and Ice”
A remarkable land of stark contrast awaits. Even the most seasoned of travellers will find something enthralling here. Visitors find an eclectic mix of everything from lava flows, bubbling hot springs, rugged fjords, geysers, glaciers and icecaps. You will be treated to ethereal beauty, landscapes that can only be described as mythical and a population that’s rich in cultural heritage and identity.
All this makes Iceland the perfect destination for your next vacation. Over the last decade this pristine and remote Scandinavian country, lying on the edge of the Arctic Circle, has become one of the world’s fastest growing tourism destinations. Geographically the country sits on a volcanically active hot-spot which is why it is often referred to as “the land of Fire and Ice”. Lying directly on top of the mid-Atlantic ridge, a tectonic fault line between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, Iceland is still evolving today.
Iceland is Europe’s least populated country, with only 278,000 people. Her rich historic and vibrant Scandinavian culture lives strong to this day though, and it is said the Icelandic language is the closest living language to ancient Norse, the language of the original Viking settlers.

"Sandgrouse Travel carefully planned the trip of a lifetime, an unforgettable experience to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. They meticulously planned all aspects of the trip from our first night stay in a fantastic lodge, the 8 day expedition and then finally a one night stay in one of Tanzania’s top Lodges which was much needed luxury after the long climb. I was particularly impressed with the guides and porters that Jonny at Sandgrouse had arranged to help us. We successfully summited at 6am on the 7th day to watch an amazing sunrise which had been the plan from the start, and was testament to Jonny’s careful planning and organisation of the trip.
Dealing with Sandgrouse Travel has been an enjoyable experience, not only are they extremely professional but also very personal and enthusiastic. Coupled with their valuable first hand experience ensured we had the time of our lives. I have since travelled again with Sandgrouse Travel to Norway’s Hordaland Mountains and they are now currently planning my next trip for early 2016.
I would highly recommend anyone looking for a personalised and authentic experience to speak to the Sandgrouse Travel team."
