Finland is the most sparsely populated country in the European Union with a population of only 5.5 million people. This unspoilt country contains thousands of lakes and islands (188,000 lakes and 179,000 islands) and displays its huge glacial Ice Age history today via mostly flat land and few hills and fewer mountains. The landscape is covered largely by forest and the country finds itself in a Boreal climate characterized with warm summers and freezing winters. Finland is the largest producer of wood in Europe and among the largest in the world.
Famous for the Aurora Borealis, the Midnight Sun, Finnish sauna, clean lakes, wild nature, ski, winter sports, Finnish design and the ‘Real Santa Claus’, Finland has so much to offer the visitor. No matter the time of year, Finland offers something extraordinary. One of Finland’s remarkable features is light. When the endless sunshine of summer gives way to dark winter, the Northern Lights appear like magic and lighten up the skies. The further north you venture, the more chance you have of enjoying this spectacular light display and Finnish Lapland, home of Santa Claus, boasts 200 nights visibility a year.

Thank you for arranging a wonderful trip! We’ve been regular visitors to Mallorca for the last 15 years. We normally head for the interior of the island where there is a good selection of stylish boutique hotels, it's hard to surprise us but this trip exceeded our expectations. Finding the hilltop village you suggested for al fresco dining was a delight and there were a number of real gems to discover that are unaffected by the commercial pressures of the coastal resorts. Palma has one of the easiest airports to navigate and the short flight time from the UK makes a long weekend break an attractive possibility.
